How to reschedule a U.S. visa interview (and get an earlier date)

If your U.S. visa interview is months away and you need to travel sooner, you can try to move it up. Rescheduling is a normal, built-in feature of the official scheduling system. The hard part is not the mechanics — it is catching an earlier date before it is gone.

Here is how the process actually works, and where people get stuck.

Before you start

You will need:

• Your login for the official scheduling site, ais.usvisa-info.com.
• Your case confirmed and your visa (MRV) fee paid — you generally cannot schedule or reschedule until the fee is registered.
• A clear idea of which consulates or cities you can realistically travel to.

How to reschedule, step by step

1. Sign in to ais.usvisa-info.com with the account tied to your application.
2. Open your existing appointment from your dashboard.
3. Choose the reschedule option for your interview (the appointment at the consulate — not only the biometrics/OFC step, if your post uses one).
4. Pick a location and look at the calendar of available dates.
5. Select an earlier date and time that works, then confirm. Your new appointment letter replaces the old one.

That is the whole flow. Any applicant can do it. The problem is what you see in step 4.

When you can and can’t reschedule

• Most applicants can reschedule a limited number of times. Check the rules shown in your account.
• You usually cannot pick a date earlier than any mandatory processing or document steps allow.
• If you cancel or miss an appointment without rescheduling, you may have to start parts of the process again — so reschedule, do not abandon.

Common mistakes

• Only refreshing one city. If you can travel to more than one consulate, watch all of them. Earlier dates often appear where you are not looking.
• Rescheduling to a worse date by accident. Confirm the date is actually earlier before you commit — the system holds one appointment at a time.
• Giving up after seeing “no dates available.” Availability changes constantly as other applicants cancel. “No dates” now does not mean “no dates in an hour.”
